This book examines, for the first time, the effects of industrial tribunal decisions on employers who have been found to be in breach of the 1975 Discrimination Act or the 1970 Equal Pay Act.
Based on interviews with managers, trade unionists, job applicants and others in a number of companies, the book investigates what action the employers took, if any, to bring about greater equality of opportunity for their employees as a result of losing a case at an industrial tribunal.
The author finds that in many cases, the industrial tribunal is a relatively weak instrument for bringing about changes in employers' practices. The book makes a number of suggestions for improving the effectiveness of industrial tribunal decisions.
