Ethnic Minorities and Higher Education
Why Are There Differential Rates of Entry?
Tariq Modood and Michael Shiner

'An excellent addition to the reading lists for courses on applied social statistics or research methods in higher education'

Stephen Satchell, Higher Education Review

There are significant differences in rates of entry into higher education between ethnic groups. This report, using official figures from UCCA and PCAS, is the first to submit the data to a rigorous multi-variate analysis to identify what accounts for the differences. It uncovers several significant ethnic differences on rates of admission, one of the most worrying of which is the significant 'under-admission' of Pakistanis and Black Caribbeans to the 'old' universities.
