Urban Trends 2
A Decade in Britain's Deprived Urban Areas
Edited by Peter Willmott

This is an objective assessment of factual evidence about conditions in Britain's deprived urban areas using detailed examinations of key indicators of deprivation - unemployment, education, housing, poverty, death rates, crime. With each topic, two questions are posed: how do the deprived areas fare compared with other kinds of area in Britain, and how far is progress being made in narrowing the gap between the deprived areas and other parts?

The report examines these questions through government statistics, some already officially available; others specially produced. These are analysed to provide measures of change over time, an the trends in the 36 most deprived areas in Britain at different dates are then compared with those for their regions and for the country as a whole.
