PSI researcher to speak at Springboard event
This week, PSI Senior Research Fellow Martha Bicket is guest speaker at the closing workshop of the 2017 Springboard Women’s Development Programme for Academics and Researchers, run as a collaboration between the University of Westminster and the Institute of Cancer Research. Springboard aims to enable women to identify the clear, practical and realistic steps that they want to take to make a better world for themselves at work and home, whilst building the practical skills and confidence to take these steps.
Herself a graduate of Springboard in 2015, Martha also sits on the University of Westminster Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Panel. Athena SWAN was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research. In May 2015, the charter was expanded to recognise work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), and in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students. The charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.
In 2016, the University of Westminster was the first institution in the world to receive the Athena SWAN Institutional Bronze Award using the expanded criteria.
