Extending Legal Aid Franchising to Non-Solicitor Agencies: Standards for supervisors

The overall aim of this study was to recommend a set of standards for casework supervisors and casework supervision for use by the Legal Aid Board in piloting franchises in non-solicitor agencies.

The specific objections of the study were, first, to establish the nature of the professional framework within which solicitors provide their client service, and to access the impact of this on client service quality. Second, to establish the nature of the inputs to casework supervisor quality in advice centres; and third to compare this with a set of standards for advice agency casework supervisors and supervision. Guidance on monitoring and enforcement would also be provided as part of the recommendations.
